Doyald Young

I have meet Doyald a couple of times here at City College some fourteen years ago. He was such a gental soul who can create the most beautiful letters you have ever seen. He is kind, soft spoken and very talented at letter making! He is very inspiring and memorizing as he speaks about the art of letter making. He describes each part of the letter as if he were the conductor of an orchestra, how each stroke connects the lines creating harmony like Beethoven. He is a classic at his niche and will be missed by many. I’m so honored that I was able to meet and talk with Doyald before he passed.

Who’s Out There

Dave Conover

Studio Conover
3131 Reynard Way
San Diego, CA 92103

Dave’s give away for me was his philosophy that you are indispensable and that you must have an attitude of gratitude. He is very personable and his studio is welcoming. The studio incompasses two design firms in one space. His wife is an exterior designer while Dave is a graphic designer. Dave emphasized the need for a niche in whatever you do best. Then he said to get involved with AIGA being former President I see why. Stressing to get out there and volunteer. Link to AIGA’s past president Dave! https://sandiego.aiga.org/person/dave-conover-2/
Fun visit with Dave he was interesting and informative.

Visit to Ron

The business practices class from City College vististed Ron Miriello at his studio in Barrio Logan with Maelin Levine. We went together as a class sat around and made a connection with Ron. When you enter his space you are surrounded by Italian bicycles and a few placed items that he designed. Ron is very inviting and ready to answer questions. I really enjoyed our visit to Ron’s humble studio, I felt inspired by his design. Ron is a hands-on which is an old school approach to his solutions. Ron has been in the business for 30 years. http://miriello.com/taylormade-adidas/#brand/1

call for artist flyer

My name is Shel Savage, this is my first blog and first blog post. I am 48 and went back to school to finish my degree I started when I was in my 20's. I realized that I have a interest in history and have changed my major from Graphic Design to Art History major with a certificate in Museum Studies. So I  want to be an Instructor and/or Curator of the Arts in San Diego. So I signed up for classes that are taught by Candice Lopez and Alessandra Mocetzuma which are both of these powerhouse women of San Diego that could help me to achieve my goals since I am a City College student, I am taking direction and with the suggestion of Candice to taking a Business Production Class with Maelin Levine. So here I am making a blog. I am taking Portfolio Building Class with Candice Lopez and Sean Bacon, Business Practises with Maelin Levine and Museum Studies Class with Alessandra Mocetzuma. In my Museum Studies class at Mesa College San Diego we having art show with Bhavna Mehta as the guest artist juror. The Exhibition is name Art that Cuts meaning art that is literally created by cutting or symbolically. This flyer I created for the class. The class was able to give me feedback as I designed it, it was a neat experience and felt like I real life action in the design world. The flyer is below. This is all very exciting as I learn of all the possibilities available to students. This is just the beginning of my journey!
